Renaissance Song, Body, Hawksmoor
With this performance, we continue our journey exploring Hawksmoor’s body of work in East London, to delight in his playful proportions and the clarity of his interior spaces, so celebrated for supporting music as an essential part of the city’s fabric.
We will take the audience on a sonic reading of the vaulted volumes of St Anne’s Limehouse, filling its rooms with Renaissance pieces from Dufay, Tallis and Byrd, and later works by Purcell and Nysted. These pieces will be performed by a chamber group of amateur singers who originally met through the experimental choir Musarc, and will be accompanied in dance by Yong Min Cho and in spoken word by Hélène Binet, responding to the scene, and the unseen.
The performance will begin as daylight falls through high windows and will end after dusk in candlelight. Join us for an evening of song, dance, movement and reflection around the haunting spaces of the church, all in aid of raising money for its much needed restoration and refurbishment.
Event Notes :
Wine and soft drinks will be on offer to raise funds for the restoration. Please note there will be no food provision.
We will be moving around the church at points, and the light levels will be intentionally low.
